The book takes place in modern times, in Indonesian. This book retell the story of the real life childhood Laskar Pelangi, Malay child Belitong. They are Ikal, Lintang, Mahar, Trapani, Harun, Syahdan, Borek, Kucai, A Kiong, Sahara, and Flo. They come from poor family’s, except Flo. Lintang is a laborer copra. He is very genius. Ikal, the boy that always dreamed to around the world and attain his idea. Trapani, the handsome boy that always beside his mother, he never can far from his mother. Mahar, sudden artist, imaginative, and unreasonable. And other members of Laskar Pelangi who always spirited to reach for their idea.

The members of Laskar Pelangi have studying in Muhammadiyah school. The teachers in Muhammadiyah school only Mrs. Muslimah and Mr. Harfan. The building of school very be apprehensive and have using as stable goat.

At first, childrens that studied in Muhammadiyah school only ten people. But, there is child from rich people, come from PN Timah, Flo. She more interest to study in Muhammadiyah school than PN school. Mrs. Muslimah very spirited to teaching the childrens in Muhammadiyah school. Laskar pelangi also very spirited to studying, although it’s condition like that.

Lintang must attack trip by his worn out bicycle as far as 80 km only to studying, get knowledge in the school. He ever got trouble on the street, at the time will accompany contest “Cerdas Cermat”. He willing attack trip that so long to satisfy his thirst of knowledge. Although, sometimes only for sing a song “Padamu Negeri” in last lesson. Ikal finded his love in the bamboo clapper shop have A Miauw. He falling in love with A Ling, A Miauw daughter. He falling in love with owner beautiful fingernail that always give her a box of chalk. Unfortunately, Ikal couldn’t together with A Ling, because A Ling went to Jakarta.

At the time carnaval August 17, Mahar have idea that very crazy and amazing to performance in that carnaval. And finally he can raise level Muhammadiyah school. Mahar and Flo very crazy with thing about mystical. They planned to visit Tuk Bayan Tula in the Lanun island, island that famous terrible. They sure that mysterious powerful can give their solution to their school grades that bad in the school. And finally, they go to Lanun island. And Tuk Bayan Tula give a roll of paper. And apparently, a roll of that paper have contents :

Lintang , the genius boy forced stopped his school, because his father died and as oldest child, he must spend all members of his family’s. Lintang didn’t have chance to continue his school.

I very like this book. Because this book very good, interesting, and this book give motivation for me to reach for idea, didn’t vain chance that I have now to study, get knowledge in the good school. This book make me conscious about urgent education. Education for us. Always struggle reach for idea, although condition didn’t symphateric for us. This book make me always survive. I recommend this book must read by all people. And this book become the favorite book.
